PYG picThe Senior High Student Ministry of Cornerstone PCA is lay-led and parent-driven.  We have a monthly PYG (Parent-Youth-Gathering), wherein it is our intention to enable students and their parents to "pyg" out on the gospel together.

Yes, it is often as sloppy as it sounds... though usually way more satisfying.

Jeremiah 15:16 - "When your words came, I ate them.  They were my joy and my hearts delight."

We believe that God has called parents to be the primary disciplers of their children.  Therefore, rather than hinder parents' ministry by encouraging them to sign over the discipleship-rights to the student ministry during the most formative years of a child's life - we seek to involve and train parents in the gospel alongside their youth.  Thus, on the first Monday night of each month we gather for what is WAY more than student ministry.  It is a smorgasbord of "pyging out" on life-themes that both parents and youth need to tackle together.

Why do we mess up a safe "cool" context by bringing parents along?  We don't.  We just make the parents more cool.

Actually, we bring the parents along because the gospel is dually for families and friends.  Consider Acts 2:39 -

"For the promise is for you and for your children and for all all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself."

Thus, in our once a month gatherings, we encourage parents to come AND our students to invite friends who might be "far off" from the good news of Christ.  Only the gospel can bridge that kind of a gap.

GYG stoolsHowever, we know that our students need time jamming to their own tunes at their own "gyg" (Gospel-Youth-Gathering).  Thus, on the second and fourth Monday nights of each month, our students gather with their lay-leaders to the beat of their own drummer.

Games.  Food.  Bible Study.  Food.  Prayer.  Food.  Songs.  Food.  Bible Study.  Food.  You get the picture.

The gospel is always more powerful, understandable, and real when studied and experienced in community.  Our GYG nite is that community for our students.

We praise God for raising up lay-leaders for this ministry.  If you are interested in helping or have questions about how to "pyg-out" or "gyg-out" with Cornerstone, contact at 610-282-5683.
